‘The works in this show are part of a larger group that was presented a few years ago at the Crafton Hills College Art Gallery, in Yucaipa, CA. I was an art instructor there for some years. Also included in that presentation were video and audio components that helped enhance the main idea of the show. That being the examination of materials as found objects – primarily, the discreet object as an industrial cast-off.

The pieces here are of varied materials – Tar, metallic paint, found wood, the foil from cigarette packs, and the more conventional art supplies of acrylic and oil paint, paper, and canvas.

My goal is to create works that are visually compelling in themselves, and also draw one’s attention to their materiality. The ‘function’ of the work is ambiguous. I also accept that ambiguity is a vital part of the work.’
