The San Diego North County Times published this excellent heads-up about Smithsonian Magazine’s upcoming Museum Day on September 26 and lists all participating San Diego county museums.
Mark your calendars. Smithsonian Magazine’s annual Museum Day is coming up Sept. 26. The magazine launched the program five years ago to encourage museums around the country to open their doors free to the public one day each year.
This year, 15 San Diego County museums will offer free admission as part of Museum Day. In order to take advantage of the program, museumgoers need to bring along an admission pass that can be found either in the September issue of Smithsonian Magazine, or downloaded online at microsite.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/admission.html.
Among the local museums signed up to participate are the California Center for the Arts, Escondido Museum; the Escondido History Center; the Mingei International Museum (at both its San Diego and Escondido locations); the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, (at locations in both San Diego and La Jolla); the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad; the Museum of San Diego History; the Oceanside Museum of Art; Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas; the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center; the San Diego Air & Space Museum; the San Diego Archaeological Center; the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum; the San Diego Natural History Museum; the Adobe Chapel Museum in San Diego; and the Whaley House Museum in Old Town.
