Richard Wright | 2010 MCASD Art Auction

April 12, 2010 – 4:37 pm

A spare and uncompromising silkscreen print by 2010 Turner Prize winner Richard Wright donated to the 2010 Auction. Wright ‘s work has been featured at MCASD in the past, and its a pleasure to see a positive ongoing relationship between one of the world’s most distinguished artists and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

Dario Robleto | MCASD 2010 Art Auction works

April 6, 2010 – 3:09 pm

We were blown away by Dario Robleto’s phenomenal creations exhibited at the ArtistsRespond! show at MCASD in 2008-1009, and so are excited to his name among the contributors to this year’s MCASD benefit art auction.

Notes on Electronics (Make Me Whole Again) is an iris print from another area altogether of Robleto’s body of work. Though small and discreet in comparison to the intricately constructed room size installations previously at MCASD, it offers comparable conceptual provocation on closer inspection/ Here is the image from the MCASD Art Auction site:

Ryan McGinness | MCASD 2010 Art Auction works

March 31, 2010 – 1:34 pm

The Frame Maker staff has loved Ryan McGinness’ intricately illustrated pieces ever since our friend Mark Quint began representing his work here in southern California, so of course its a pleasure to see his work contributed to the MCASD cause this spring.

Untitled is another McGinness piece where you have to look closely (and in person) at the marks on the canvas (or in this case, (panel). This is about as far from dashed off decorative abstract painting as you can get, with every edge, sweep and curve precisely laid in miniature landscape with fine detail. Here is the image from the MCASD Art Auction site:

MCASD 2010 Art Auction works: Richard Serra

March 26, 2010 – 8:09 pm

For the 2008 MCASD Art Auction, The Frame Maker was honored to frame and present a print on paper from renowned sculptor Richard Serra.

Serra’s contribution to the 2010 event is P&E XIX, 2007, another two dimensional work that pushes the third dimension through the use of paint stick on mylar. Here is the image from the MCASD Art Auction site:

MCASD 2010 Art Auction works: Javier Limon

March 26, 2010 – 3:27 am

In 2009, The Frame Maker was honored to frame Javier Limon’s entire show for MCASD as part of our annual corporate sponsorship. Not only was it a pleasure to handle Javier’s intensely dark photos exploring the experience of Mexican immigrants (both legal and illegal) along the international border in California and Arizona, we were honored to meet Javier personally in our shop in consultation for the show.

Dawn, Javier’s contribution to the 2010 MCASD auction, is another surreal and evocative large format photograph; here’s the image from the MCASD Art Auction site:

MCASD 2010 Art Auction works: Tara Donovan

March 24, 2010 – 6:46 pm

Tara Donovan’s recent show at MCASD was incredible, so naturally we were thrilled to see that she is donating one of her images on paper to the 2010 MCASD Art Auction.

Untitled is a dramatic 51 5/8 x 42 1/2 inches; here’s the image from the MCASD Art Auction site:

MCASD 2010 Art Auction works: David Adey

March 23, 2010 – 3:01 pm

We’ve been fans of artist David Adey since his show at Luis de Jesus’ Seminal Projects gallery in Little Italy in 2008, and featured one of his rosette pieces in our showroom later in collaboration with Luis. (Luis and Seminal Projects have since moved to Los Angeles, which is a great loss for the contemporary art community of San Diego.)

David’s contribution to the 2010 MCASD Art Auction is from 2008 and entitled Sexy and Single; here’s the image from the MCASD Art Auction site:

TFM sponsors MCASD Art Auction again in 2010

March 22, 2010 – 3:58 pm

The Frame Maker is proud to be the trusted regular picture framer for the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego every year, but the bi-annual MCASD Art Auction gives us an exciting opportunity to take our support and enthusiasm for San Diego’s premiere contemporary art institution a step further.

2010 marks the seventh time we’ve had the pleasure to sponsor this event by providing all of the museum quality picture framing required to present dozens of world class donated art works to the patrons, supporters and fans of MCASD. While it always feels good to donate thousands of dollars in essential services to a vital San Diego art institution (especially during indecisive economic times), we are even more pleased to support MCASD with our decades of experience and expertise in handling and presenting some of the world’s finest art.

Ensuring the pristine condition of art work headed for auction is a vital component of supporting the MCASD mission. Trust and confidence in MCASD’s best art handling practices ensures the success of the MCASD Art Auction, the proceeds of which fund both future MCASD art acquisitions, as well as their vital community outreach and education programs. Of course as artists and art enthusiasts ourselves, we are thrilled to work with the caliber of art donated to this event, and proud to be entrusted with its care and preservation.
