Chalk Picture Frame in Little Italy?

October 14, 2008 – 6:41 am

For the seventh consecutive year, John Hiemstra of The Frame Maker spent Columbus Day weekend in Little Italy chalk painting as part of “Gesso Italiano”, the street painting component of the annual Little Italy Festa.

We think The Frame Maker community will get a kick out of these photos, as this year, John created a trompe l’oeil picture frame in chalk for his chalk painting, a recreation of Dura’s “St. Domenic” from the 15th century now hanging in the Uffizi in Florence, Italy.

The frame design was lifted from one of the handcarved and gilded picture frame corner samples from The Frame Maker showroom, naturally based on a traditional Italian design.

September 29, 2008 – 10:58 pm

The Frame Maker is proud to present Sketches of Rob Quigley: San Diego New Central Library through November 26, 2008 in our Mission Hills showroom near Little Italy and the airport.

Noted San Diego architect Rob Quigley (The New Childen’s Museum) has been engaged in creating San Diego’s New Central Library for over ten years. This show presents the essential hand drawings and electronic renderings from which the final library design emerged, illustrating the evolution of public architecture born of public input.

Lux After Dark

September 23, 2008 – 4:36 am

Our long time friend Reesey Shaw’s Lux Art Institute is holding their annual fundraiser this Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Rancho Santa Fe home of June and Neil Ash.
Check out the Lux Events page for more information about Lux After Dark and upcoming Lux events.
Located in Encinitas, Lux has a unique mission in the San Diego art community:

Lux Art Institute is redefining the museum experience to make art more accessible and personally meaningful. At Lux, you don’t just see finished works of art; you see the artistic process firsthand, engaging with internationally recognized artists in a working studio environment.

With seven working artists on staff at The Frame Maker, we have a special appreciation for what Lux does and we are proud to help sponsor their gala again this year. Be sure to visit their website at www.luxartinstitite.org.

Hearts on Fire/ SDFAS

August 28, 2008 – 5:27 am

This was a great event at a fabulous home in La Jolla, with the proceeds going to fund the new Arts and Healing Fund for Family Health Centers of San Diego.

Surrounded by the art of host Maher Morcos, SDFAS hosted an exotically blended show of sculpture and exquisite diamonds from sponsor Hearts on Fire and San Diego jeweller Charles Koll.

To find out more about our friends at the San Diego Fine Art Society and their work to inspire artists, collectors, and the entire art community of San Diego, please visit them online at www.sdfas.org.
