San Diego State University Children’s Center Annual Benefit this week 4/16

The Frame Maker is once again pleases to contribute a series of custom frames to the SDSU Children’s center annual “A is for Art” project. Collecting many pieces of student-created art from the past year, this program is truly inspiring as some of the works are from kids as young as 18 months old!.

Through out the school year, the Center brings in professional artists from many disciplines to work with all the different age groups in creative process art art sessions. The results are not just wonderful guided art pieces, but also wonderful stories of children’s experiences and creative development recorded in these canvases.

The project culminates in a “gallery” opening and auction of the kids’s work that benefits the continuing programs at the Children’s Center on the SDSU campus. The gallery is actually the KPBS soundstage, generously reconfigured by KPBS for the evening into a white wall exhibition space with elegant lighting and catering, staffed by SDSU student volunteers and attended by the children, proud parents and staff of the Center as well as supporters across both the SDSU campus and the San Diego art and education communities.

ECHOES extended, A-is-for-Art reception Tuesday March 24 @TFM

All along we knew we weren’t going to have the kids’ paintings from the SDSU Children’s Center’s A-is-for-Art program up at The Frame Maker for much longer than a week. One of the great things about the program is the display of work all around campus leading up to the gala event on April 10 at KPBS back on campus.

After our A-is-for-Art reception on March 24 (next Tuesday), we were going to move on to a show we are developing in house. But because so many people like our current show, ECHOES, we’re going to reinstall it for the month of April leading up to our booth at ArtWalk on April 25th and 26th, so if you haven’t seen Lea’s art glass and Maire’s abstract photography yet, now you’ve got another chance to get down to our Mission Hills showroom to check it out.

SDSU Childrens Center: A-is-for-Art returns in 2009

And again The Frame Maker is proud to sponsor this excellent event supporting an excellent program. Each year the SDSU Children’s Center brings in professional artists to help develop the imaginations and worldviews of little people 18 months to 5 years old by making art.

Everyone contributes to making this community project work. The “A-is-for-Art” event itself is the culmination of a year’s art work and the genesis of the next: all the work created by the kids is auctioned off, with the proceeds going to fund next year’s program.

Last year, we were pleased to frame up twenty paintings for an even better show at the KPBS studios on the SDSU campus. This year we are really proud to display selections from the show in our showroom starting next week. We are planning a reception on Tuesday March 24 as a preview to the auction itself on April 10th (back on campus at KPBS).

A is for Art, SDSU Childrens Center

The Frame Maker is proud to be supporting a terrific arts education program for pre-school children at the San Diego State University Children’s Center on the SDSU campus.

The Children’s Center philosophy is both simple and complete:

The SDSU Children’s Center features a relaxed and loving atmosphere in which children are free to explore, learn and create through play. To foster the development of the whole child, activities are planned to provide maximum physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth – and continuous exposure to the tools for learning. Our main goal is to helpchildren learn and develop in ways that promote their own growth, as well as getting along with others.

Each school year, Center Director Robin Judd coordinates ongoing sessions that bring professional working artists to kids at each age level at the center. Together they learn and practice art making in different mediums and styles, resulting in a collection of refreshingly sophisticated finished artwork in the spring.
