San Diego Fine Art Society @ Artwalk 2008

June 16, 2008 – 9:57 pm

I’ve been saving the San Diego Fine Art Society entry for last in our brief ArtWalk series because we were introduced to SDFAS before ArtWalk and have many good things to say about SDFAS and founder April Game that go well beyond the scope of Artwalk.

First things first:

“The San Diego Fine Art Society is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to nurturing the creation and appreciation of art in San Diego. We have a three-pronged strategy to accomplish this:

* a mentoring program that offers young artists practical business guidance, workshops and networking opportunities;
* community outreach that educates members on the rich, varied, and often hidden art of our region and the importance of collecting, and
* a corporate art consulting service to help community businesses of all kinds embrace and reflect the visual arts culture of San Diego.” (from www.sdfas.org)

As part of the mentoring program, April showed multiple emerging artists in her booth at Little Italy’s ArtWalk this spring, several for the first time.

When we spoke with her on Sunday afternoon, April had sold two paintings, one of which was the first piece that artist had ever sold. As artists ourselves, as well as professionals in the art business, everyone at The Frame Maker enthusiastically supports April’s mission and her tremendous energy.

The Frame Maker is proud to support the SDFAS mission to “inspire a creative community” on an ongoing basis, beginning with their very first Collector’s Club event back in April and continuing with this Saturday’s Artist Workshop hosted at our shop in south Mission Hills, near Little Italy and the airport.Look for the next posts for details, or for more info.
